?!?!

I put Ly down in the center of this blanket, with her feet pointing toward the bottom left of the photo. I went to peek in at a napping Moss and walked back to this. What in the everliving heck. Again I say, she has to be older than she looks. I half wonder if I actually gave birth in October and just didn't notice. If I hadn't been literally staring at a sleeping Moss, I would have assumed he ran up, picked her up and dragged her by the feet, and ran away. Precocious roly poly baby.

My wise little owl

Lyra is older than she looks, I think. She is exquisitely intuitive and always seems to know just what you need. Very special.

Who wears short shorts

Oh my little little boy, maybe someday your shorts won't look like pants. Someday.

Enchanted evenings at Google

Because of course they have a rock garden

And Lisa sent a library

And lovely places to sit

And weird spaces to explore

And bubbles.

Explosive radiating growth

Moss's vocabulary explosion started this month.  Holy moly.  I've been trying to keep track of his lexicon, but it's getting too hard.  For example, I clearly have a video of him saying broccoli, but it totally escaped my log for that day and the video reminded me to add it just now.  So here's the most complete record possible as of today; I suspect by the end of the month it will be too much to track without hiring a videographer of our lives.

Thanks Pete and Anna!

How do you make a little boy say pbthpbthpbthpbthpbthpbthpbthpbth for an entire morning? Put on his helicopter monster shirt from "Beat 'n Uhnah" and give him a matchbox helicopter.

An inevitability

Moss watched me pick up dog poop with a large shovel, walked purposefully to his sandbox, grabbed a trowel and started "helping". Gross.

Taking a rest

How do you say love: A Dad post

Today we went for a walk to burn off some energy before Moss's nap.  We live near Moffett Air FIeld, and there's a constant stream of training flights in large cargo planes.  Moss loves these planes, and always points them out and makes plane noises.

The rear cargo hatch was open, and the plane was flying slow and level, so Moss was treated to several rounds of jump training.  He kept saying what I thought was "wind" and pointing into the air.  He said "sky" and "cloud" as well (both firsts) which may have colored my interpretation.  When I realized he was saying "plane", he threw his hands into the air, spun around, and laughed and then did it again for good measure.

We ambled along, picking up rocks and leaves.  Right before we arrived at our goal, one of the neighbors' cactus gardens, we saw a rollie pollie.  Moss watched as I showed him this weird wriggling thing and was surprised when it balled up.  Before he could stomp it, we moved on to the cacti.

He happily chanted "cactee" as we looked at the spines and prickly pears.

He was starting to wind down at this point, so I scooped him up and we walked home.  He had a few more first words ("car" and "truck").

Just before we went in the house, I said, "Moss, I love you.  Can you say love?"

He didn't say anything at all he just gave me a kiss.

Microposts return

I have too many amazing pictures and stories to keep to myself, but not enough personal bandwidth to craft elaborate weekly posts. Let's experiment with this and see if it's sustainable: at least once every day I'll post a picture or two, an anecdote, and/or a video with one or both babies. I document these little moments for Ben while he's at work anyway, I might as well just take the extra 2 steps and publish them for acclaim and posterity. :)

Moss and Lyra are crazy about each other. I cannot believe how lucky we are that this part has been so easy so far. Hope it stays.
